Degree Description

The Master of Arts (Theological Studies) or MA(TS) at Pacific Theological Seminary provides students a biblical and theological foundation, which empowers individuals to serve as leaders through a process of intellectual, spiritual and practical Christian formation. This degree additionally provides a versatile educational path, which allows students to shape their degree in response to their unique vocation, including training for various ministry settings such as chaplaincy, global outreach, parachurch organization, and roles in pastoral care. Students are equipped with vital critical thinking, research and writing skills necessary for versatility in God’s kingdom as well as additional work in academics.

Objectives of the MA(TS) Program

  1. Apply an informed hermeneutical approach to a comprehensive biblical foundation.

  2. Relate historically rooted theological understanding with cultural and ministerial concerns.

  3. Establish ongoing Christian formational practices manifested by authentic love for God and others and the fruit of the Spirit.

  4. Demonstrate critical thinking, research and writing skills vital for effective work in academia and ministry settings.

  5. Practice an intercultural competence while engaged in bringing God’s kingdom to global and local issues

Academic Requirements

A prospective student will need an earned Bachelors from an approved or accredited institution.

Length of Study

The MA(TS) requires 42 units to complete. Students may complete the program in 2 1/2 years, but may take longer to finish all requirements for the program depending on the number of credits taken each term. All credits earned at PTS are semester-credits.
